The Pā Boys

Film (Trailer and Excerpts) – 2014

M
Mature

As the poster put it, The Pā Boys is "about 'life, death and fu**ing good music'. The movie follows a band meeting up in Wellington and playing East Coast and Northland pubs, as they head for Cape Reinga. The trio find themselves on a roots journey that's both musical and personal (mateship, whānau, whakapapa). The band are played by actor/singers Francis Kora and Matariki Whatarau, and theatre actor Tola Newbery. Released in cinemas on Waitangi Day 2014, Himiona Grace's first feature won Best Film at the Wairoa Māori Film Festival. The soundtrack debuted at #1 on the local iTunes Soundtrack chart.

It is a story that explores the strength of friendship, the importance of whānau (family) whakapapa (genealogy) and history.
