Novelist and poet Anne Kennedy worked on scripts for two of the most acclaimed episodes of anthology series About Face: Danny and Raewyn, and Jewel's Darl. Jewel was based on Kennedy's first published short story, which won a 1983 Katherine Mansfield award. She followed it by writing for female-led drama series Marching Girls, and Alison Maclean's Crush. Later Kennedy's script for detective tale The Monkey's Mask was nominated for two Australian screenplay awards.
The Marching Girls was the first popular-styled local drama series to put female characters and concerns in ‘the middle of the picture’
