Journalist/writer Geoff Chapple won a 1989 Film Award for Vincent Ward's acclaimed fantasy The Navigator. Chapple helped write the script, and also co-authored Ward's book Edge of the Earth. Chapple's other books include Rewi Alley of China, written after working with Alley on two docos: Gung Ho and The Humble Force. Chapple is a sometime member of percussion ensemble From Scratch, and creator of national walking trail Te Araroa.
The Navigator stars were due at the premiere in a cart drawn by draught horses, but a wheel broke, and they went by limo. So my wife and I rode the big horses up Queen Street to the Plaza anyway – a great ride.
