The late Michael King was widely recognized as a leading chronicler of New Zealand and its people. King wrote more than thirty books, ranging from Māori culture to war, to an acclaimed biography of Janet Frame. His Penguin History of New Zealand remains one of our biggest sellers. In 1974 King presented landmark documentary series Tangata Whenua, directed by another New Zealand taonga: the late Barry Barclay.
You can't understand your country and your culture unless you know its history.
