Steven Zanoski landed his first screen role at 19 after answering an advert for a writer/presenter on kid favourite What Now? He followed it by scripting teleplay House of Sticks, and joining the Shortland Street writing team. Zanoski went on to write for television across Russia, Europe and New Zealand, including a Balkan version of American hit Ugly Betty. After four years producing Shortland Street, he returned to South Pacific Pictures in 2013 as head of development. Zanoski later produced corporate drama series Filthy Rich (2016), Australian mini series Bad Mothers (2019) and surrogacy drama series Friends Like Her (2024).
That’s what keeps it exciting, and is also part of the show renewing itself: it does keep throwing up new creative challenges and that makes sure everyone is always on top of their game. Steven Zanoski on Shortland Street
