Do punters remember the Spot Film Competitions in teh late 70s/early 80s? I remember making an entry while at intermediate ... a stop motion epic called 'The Intermediappolis 500'. We never made the final cut, but is it possible the entries were all kept and are lurking in vaults somewhere. There must be some gems in there, maybe some kids went on to be involved as grown-ups in the industry?

We are keen to try to get some of the Spot On films on the site at some stage soon, and have been doing some work with the TVNZ Archive on this. Some of the entrants have gone on to become quite big name people in the screen industry.

Hey, I was just going to email about this.
It would be great to see these again, there were some very memorable ones.

Our school's (Dunsandel school) entry got on TV in 1982 (or 1981) and it was a clip of me making a worm farm out of an old plastic bottle. I didn't ever get to see it as we weren't home. Is there any chance of it still being around and being able to get a copy.

It might still be around Rebecca, probably at NZ Film Archive as looking through the catalogue on their website, the hold quite a bit of the film comp from Spot On. NZ On Screen is still working away on research and licensing the title

Anyone remember a 15 year old Sir Peter Jackson from Kapiti College winning with a gory WW2 flick one year?. Very funny stuff that should be unearthed for all students to see.

Yes, Peter Jackson did have a film in the Spot On competition, and yes we would love to have it on the site. Unfortunately at this stage we have been unable to clear the rights. Sir Peter may have plans to release it himself along with some other early work...
