Are the issues surrounding the cancellation of a Hunter's Gold dvd release going to have a long term effect on the availability of archival TV? Seems odd for TVNZ to get so far in the process without getting all the paperwork signed.

I don't know all the details of the TVNZ situation, but we should have an episode of Hunter's Gold for the NZ On Screen site soon. Cast clearances are a little different for us as we are a non-commercial entity.

It seems it may see the light this year. I got an update at MightyApe dvd store that the release date is now 24 November 2010 ($29.99). Now, here's hoping for The Fire Raiser, Wooley Valley, Strangers and from Australia, Secret Valley!! :)

Yes. Arovideo also has this list for Nov 24th release.
I sincerely hope so.
Looks like Fire Raiser, Steel Riders and Mad Dog Gang are in the works to be released too.
Yipee!

ARO Video seems to be the only one taking preorders now. Mighty Ape and JB HiFi listing the title but stating it is no longer available to order... SIGH. Have made my order at ARO but I think something could be up again :( Marbecks, which normally stocks TVNZ content, is not listing it at all.

Yes I suspect Hunter's Gold won't be released this year.
On the brighter side Kiwi Gold vol 1,2,3 has just been released with episodes from McPhail&Gadsby, Billy T, Issues, Rabitter Rest. Which will be great to see. I do wish they would release the entire series though rather than best-of compilations. Maybe they are testingthe water with these.

Maybe. But the only thing that would make people aware of this title (which I bought today in the 3 disc boxed set) would be some on screen promotion and then maybe the demand will be there for other classic television to be released.
But... it seems the company sourcing the material is owned by Tom Parkinson and the titles listed on each disc are all from his days of working for SPTV/TV One and TVNZ.
If you're expecting other non-Parkinson material to show up on the Kiwi Gold label, you might be firmly disappointed.
Although Parkinson did do Telethon and I'd love to see a 3-disc celebration of Telethon released on the label and I think it's about damn time that happened.

My order at Aro was cancelled last week. TVNZ have pulled the release again!!! This is ridiculous. It was pulled once and then a new release date posted, now off again.
This is definitely puts a spanner in the works for other such releases. Still dreaming of seeing Fire Raiser again, Barney Palmer and Wooley Valley.
Sigh.

If it's any consolation Episode 1 of Hunter's Gold went up on this site this week. You can find Woolly Valley here also in all it's glory. The Haunting of Barney Palmer is here in full length to watch and we should hopefully have an episode of Fire Raiser pretty soon too.
Not quite what you're after perhaps, but it's a start!

It's our childhood! :) And some of the best kids TV New Zealand ever produced - the reason I went into film and TV in the first place.
Happy Monday, from Singapore :P
