I've been at wits end about this because I bought, from TVNZ, the 1975 TV One opener with Sibelius's Intermezzo from "The Karelia Suite" (which was also included in "This Is New Zealand") and I notice in a still image I've seen for "This Is New Zealand" that there's a lovely fly over of a mountain and I also notice the same fly over in the old TV One opener and I've made a post on my blog about this because it's been bugging me so much.
So, finally, could someone please tell me, once and for all, whether the National Film Unit, who produced "This is New Zealand", gave TV One permission to use various pieces from this movie and what the reason was for doing so, if possible.

Hey there - we at NZ On Screen have no idea about this - but you could try contacting the people at Archives NZ as they hold the film in their collection, or with Hugh Macdonald (the director).
We are actually going to have an excerpt from this amazing film on NZ On Screen very soon - we've created a specially adapted player to show it in all its widescreen glory! We'll keep you posted.

Take a look - a 2.5 min excerpt from This Is New Zealand.
More coming at some point in the future but it's a pretty stunning clip for now!

I read there's plans underway to release this to DVD this year for the 40th anniversary of the World Expo in Osaka.
If this does happen it's going to be an amazing feat to pull off considering three screens were needed back then to project this masterpiece onto.
