I had earlier that year seen Stan Hill and NZ play against Canada led by 18 year old Leo Rautkin. The HT score of 45 to 43 remains to this day, forty three years later, one of the finest most electric haves of basketball i have ever seen. The game was played in Coventry , England .

great to watch, my son was hoping it was his grandfather, and was surprised that his grandfathers team had not beaten Australia.

I was Manager of the 1978 team. This was the best team that coach Steve McKean had assembled and trained. Stan was fresh back from Santa Clara University, the fittest I have ever seen him. his brother John far from being in Stan's shadow rose to the occasion and played superbly. One of the highlights of my sporting career. I was shocked at some of the the actions of the Australian referee, but the NZ Ref Bruce McCormack tried to straighten the ledger. A fine bunch of New Zealand Basketballers. Our first ever win over Australia, and the first step on the path to International success.

Was there watching this historic win as a 14 year old kid, with basketball my life... what a game! Great to see old friends and opponents playing in this clip, brilliant!

Now we need some of the 2002 World Champs run from Indianapolis!
