Synopsis

Invercargill mayor Tim Shadbolt ventures into the wilds of Borneo for this episode of Intrepid Journeys. He admits that he finds the jungle both beautiful and frightening, and describes his sleeping arrangements at night as 'pure unadulterated hell'. As well as contending with rough conditions and jungle wildlife such as the lethal pit viper snake, Shadbolt is moved by a visit to the Orangutan Rescue Centre in Sepilok. Orangutans are endangered in the area because they are losing their forest habitat to palm oil plantations.
