Synopsis

In 1983, Split Enz, NZ's most successful rock group to date, celebrated 10 years together. TVNZ's flagship arts show Kaleidoscope marked the occasion by following the band on their 'Enz of an Era' tour as they reunited with former members (including Mike Chunn) for a concert at Auckland's His Majesty's Theatre (where they first made a major impact) and played the Sweetwaters Festival. Members talk frankly to reporter Ian Fraser about a decade of highs and lows, and there's priceless Dylan Taite-filmed tomfoolery from the band's early days in England.

What a pleasure to see this. A wonderful time capsule.

that was a great watch. What a brilliant band, visionery. Amazing that they are so united , so tight in this yet a year later Tim had released his solo album, the Enz released a "conflicting emotions" album - not their strongest and then they split up.
Thankfully for us Tim & Neil Finn are still writing beautiful songs.

Quotes

When we started planning it, we thought it might just be a token nod to the past, but it has really turned into a 10th birthday show. I’ve had to learn all those old songs that I’ve never played before.
We never advertised for musicians — and I think it’s a bit of a fluke that there just happened to be this bunch of people that had the talent to carry it right through ... and the ideas and imagination and the songwriting talent.
It would only be in His Majesty’s Theatre that you would expect to still hear these echoes. It was there that the wheels were set in motion and the blueprint forged.
