Synopsis

Even in black and white Space Waltz brings a shot of rock'n'roll flash and glamour to a talent section of a show more used to singing families, novelty acts and overly earnest solo artists. The judges were largely confused by the glam-rock onslaught and only grudgingly allowed Alastair Riddell's band to get through to the finals where they buried them. But Riddell had gone over their heads and he had the last laugh. Rock fans around the country took notice and EMI quickly signed his band. Within weeks 'Out on the Street' was the first local chart topper in three years.

Rockin! Our very own rock legend recluse. he awaits in the heavens to come back and lay down some truly world class rock, yet again.

Quotes

In the 1970s there is no single image that did more to challenge the straitjacket stereotype of New Zealand maleness than seeing Alastair Riddell in full (glam) flight on Studio One/New Faces.
