Graeme Dingle and Peter Hillary must look back on their 1974 jaunt down the Hollyford River and shake their heads at how astoundingly foolhardy it was: no helmets; bare feet; very little kayaking skill; and taking to the river when it was in flood. So much for Ed's admonition to 'be prepared': he would rightly get a ticking off from today's Police/SAR.
Still, it's an inspiration to get out in the bush. Go to it, it's a great place.
