Produced by Greenstone Pictures, Zoo Babies is the spin-off series from TVNZ's popular, award-winning series, The Zoo. Capitalising on the cute-charisma of baby animals, Zoo Babies also highlights the inherent dramas of animal breeding programmes at zoos. Filmed at Auckland Zoo, this doco follows the story of surviving twin Baby Iwani, a Siamang Gibbon, whose mother rejected him at six weeks of age. Senior Primate Keeper Christine Tintinger takes on the role of surrogate Mum, hand-raising Iwani for a year before giving him back to his mother.

I visited Adelaide Zoo at Easter (2011) and found Iwani, partner and baby - very cute. Iwani and mate put on a calling show like no other for more than a half hour. After, I called out his name and he looked over at me - it was great - I so enjoyed the TV series and following his progress now that he is a Dad himself.

I watched this last night in Sydney and it touched me incredibly. The fate of little Iwani and the dedicated caring of Christine. Iwani was so lucky to have found such a wonderful foster mother. In terms of pure cuteness and the ability to pull on your heartstrings this is amazing. Seeing the comment made below I'm so pleased that all that hard work and patience had such a great result.
