The multi-talented Jackie van Beek first honed her storytelling skills in theatre. Since then she has combined acting with directing, starting with a run of award-winning short films. In this ScreenTalk Short, van Beek recalls about being terrible on Shortland Street, directing her first short film One Shoe Short, and the joys of What We Do in the Shadows. She also talks directing: "hooning around the Hutt Valley" for TV's Wellington Paranormal, her own drama The Inland Road, and hit comedy The Breaker Upperers, which she made and co-starred in with Madeleine Sami.
