The music video for Zed’s biggest hit sees the band rocking out in a dimly-lit house while a storm seems to rage outside, wreaking havoc with the venetian blinds. The infectious earworm peaked at number four on the New Zealand singles chart and helped Zed's debut album Silencer become the best-selling local album of 2000. 'Renegade Fighter' gained extensive airplay as part of a long-running Rebel Sport commercial, and was used in the United States in both an episode of Superman TV show Smallville and movie American Pie 2.
Wellington dub/roots act Rhombus won fans with this video for the brassy, bouncy, self referential first single from their debut album ‘Bass Player’. Director Chris Graham pays fulsome tribute to classic road movie Goodbye Pork Pie (complete with cameo from the film’s star, original 'Blondini' Kelly Johnson). There are also appearances from a number of Wellington musical heavyweights, including Fat Freddy’s Drop, Trinity Roots (with a snatch of ‘Little Things’) and MC Rizzla, also known as Tiki Taane (who features on the original track).
The third single from Bic Runga's 1997 debut album Drive got to number seven in the NZ charts, 10 in Australia and 26 in Ireland. It nudged the UK charts at 96, and was included on the soundtrack of hit comedy American Pie. Directed by UK photographer/video director Karen Lamond and made to showcase Runga internationally, the video shows the singer shyly stalking the hipster of her 90s dreams, as he stocks the shelves of an Italian deli. Back at her place, the camera pulls back for an unexpected end. An earlier video for the single also exists, directed by Kiwi talent Joe Lonie.
