Percy the Policeman

Television, 1974

This series of short comedies for children never screened on television, thanks to fears it cast the police in a bad light. The five six-minute episodes star Bruno Lawrence as a wily robber, and Bill Stalker as the inept but well-meaning cop who fails to catch him. Silent movie style chases and stunts dominate, backed by music from Dave Fraser and 1970s creative collective Blerta. Percy the Policeman was an early collaboration between two local indie screen legends: Blerta member Geoff Murphy and Pacific Films boss John O'Shea.
