Jason Stutter

Director, Writer

Jason Stutter’s first movie was kung-fu caper Tongan Ninja (2002), which The NZ Herald called  "possibly one of the dumbest, funniest local films" up to that date. Since then he has made both self-funded features — comedy Edwin: My Life as a Koont, and haunted house tale The Dead Room — and  bigger projects: his 2010 adaptaton of dark Ronald Hugh Morrieson tale Predicament. Stutter is also responsible for the Careful series of short films, which offer up comical cautionary tales of being aware when using tools and weapons.

Tongan Ninja, a comedy cult classic befitting a living legend that will live long after all other living legends have died . . . Remember the name Jason Stutter and if he drops by with beers and a script asking for money to make his next movie, be prepared to dig deep. He’s a living legend, too. NZ Herald writer Graham Reid, in an enthused review of Tongan Ninja, The NZ Herald, 1 October 2004
