Catapulted to fame after Robert Muldoon threw him out of a press conference, Tom Scott originally wanted to be a vet, but ended up helping Murray Ball turn Footrot Flats into a hit movie. The screen CV of this celebrated humourist and cartoonist ranges widely: from documentaries on Kiwi legends (Edmund Hillary, David Lange) to dramatisations of married angst (Separation City) and the 1981 tour (tele-movie Rage).
It has taken me 20 years to evolve into the writer I needed to be for this project ... I had to do something at this age, it might as well be a feature film. It was either that, or lawn bowls.
– Tom Scott, on scripting Separation City
