  1. Full length short film.

This Simmonds Brothers short film tells tells the story of Raumati South Kindergarten's beloved — but ill-fated — rooster. The early-rising hard-rocking cockerel's waking up of the neighbourhood sees complaints made to the council, and dog ranger Don Wolff (literally animated!) is assigned to the case. The tragi-comic saga is shot in the Simmonds Bro's distinctive 'documation' style: using 2D animation and audio to portray real-life events. The 2001 shooting made national news and Paul Holmes' and Carol Hirschfield's coverage features alongside local reaction.

More Kapiti Coast story telling

In Kuala Lumpur no one gives a stuff: a chicken dies and you put it in a pot and curry the bugger! But yeah ... This is New Zealand
Like everyone else in the community, we were shocked to hear the pet rooster had been shot and when I heard the name of the animal control officer who pulled the trigger was Mr Wolff I immediately thought it would make a great documation.
We're sort of influenced by a lot of old Blues ... Hendrix, Janis Joplin ... that sort of stuff
I think it just comes down to the fact that it's a sound I enjoy ... it might not be something the someone else would necessarily enjoy.
