Enemy of the State

Web, 2021

Enemy of the State chronicles an epic legal battle over the fate of Ahmed Zaoui, an Algerian who sought asylum in New Zealand in 2002. Zaoui was imprisoned for two years without charges, held under a security risk certificate over suspicions that he was a terrorist. The podcast consists of 20 episodes — 10 video episodes, each running roughly five minutes, and 10 half-hour audio episodes. Featured are interviews with Zaoui's lawyers Deborah Manning and Richard McLeod, plus Zaoui himself. John Keir's series was published on The NZ Herald website in 2021; the podcast episodes were released on various podcast platforms.
