He Paki Taonga i a Māui

While working at museum Te Papa Tongarewa, writer David Brechin-Smith was inspired to create a show for kids in te reo Māori. He Paki Taonga i a Māui is based on stories behind 18 taonga stored at Te Papa. Narrated by mythological hero Māui (Granda's Kahukura Royal), it includes imagery by Māori artists. Brechin-Smith (Insiders Guide to Happiness) and Te Papa te reo writer Ranea Aperahama developed the 18 short episodes for Maori Television and YouTube. Nominated for a 2020 NZ Television Award, the show spawned two books.
