SMOKO follows the high jinks of Mr Black and Miss Jones — two small-town primary school teachers and best friends who can't wait until the end of the school day to crack into the wine. Over six episodes, Black (Samuel Christopher) and Jones (Lucinda Hare, from Auckward Love) find themselves grappling with parent-teacher interviews, a sudden family death with an unexpected inheritance, and staffroom gossip about teachers on Tinder dates. SMOKO was a finalist for Best Pilot at the 2019 New Zealand Web Fest.
