The Games Affair - Episode One

This series was shown here in Australia in late 1977. I was 11 at the time. I didn't pay much attention to the plot, but I remember the rather gruesome demise of two of the villains at the end, especially the one who copped the syringe and appeared to turn into a statue. I haven't seen it since, but I would like to watch in right through. It's not on YouTube - yet.

Only found out the name of the series because of the Prime series looking back at the history of TV in NZ.

I saw this series as a kid, and ever since I've been trying to find out the name of it. Thanks so much! As per just about everyone else on this board, I would like to extend a plea for the series to come back, even as a DVD set or whatever. It was so totally and delightfully out of there that even today I think it'd be worthwhile a new generation seeing it.

So glad to see this again! I grew up in Chch and it was really fascinating and increasingly spooky to see the action all unfold in very familiar territory. I sort of hoped to see, and then wished I didn't see any real live action for myself - it was all too close to home.
Near the end I think there was some kind of monster / gorilla and shattering man chasing the kids around the stadium - all while races and announcements were going on!
Could we see more please?

Classic stuff! Great to see the jumping sheep after all those years. I seem to recall later scenes with a super fast table tennis player, and that the special "athletes" would break like terracotta figures. Christchurch in the 70s, more please :-)

Great to see this again. I do however recall that as a 7-year old it scared the hell out of me (the series starts to get very macabre as it goes on).
Not credited (but definitely deserving of being so) is the NZ composer Ross Harris who created the electronic music for the series on (I believe) an EMS Synthi analogue synthesizer. The piece accompanying the bike ride through Hagley Park (first episode, part two, 1' 37") is utterly charming.
