In December 2016 over 2000 ukelele wielding primary school children packed into the Vector Arena in Auckland to help celebrate the 10th New Zealand Ukulele Festival. Superstar band Six60 was also in attendance, surprising the crowd by taking to the stage and performing a uke powered version of their 2014 hit 'Special'. In this short video Six60 members Matiu Walters, Marlon Gerbes and Ji Fraser are buzzed to take the stage and lead a mass rendition of their hook-laden, double platinum selling single. The musicians reflect on the 'Special' sing-a-long and voice their support for Kiwi kids experiencing music making in school.
Quite emotional, to be honest. There's these kids who are so enthusiastic about playing 'Special' . . . this is so cool to see that our song has translated that emotion to these kids and it's awesome to see.– Six60 member Marlon Gerbes on performing at the 2016 NZ Ukulele Festival
