A lot of people didn’t "get" us. All they knew was 'Headless Chickens'; [that] it must be a dark, evil band, into voodoo or something, you know. We had that in Brisbane: we got booted out of — we weren't allowed to play a hall because they thought we were a voodoo band.

...what happened was that the commercial industry — the people I can remember, like Kevin Black — standing up and going "Who the hell are these guys? This has got to be sorted out" … There were people who were angry, angry that these people [Headless Chickens] had won, you know: "‘This can never happen again. This is not how we do the New Zealand music industry" ... Quite a lot of shit hit the fan basically. And we just laughed; we thought it was hilarious.
