Katherine Kennard: The ups and downs of the acting life...

Interview – 2012

Katherine Kennard left drama school and quickly landed a role on Xena: Warrior Princess. Her big break came playing lawyer Joni Collins across four seasons of Street Legal. Since then Kennard has appeared in a range of TV dramas including This is Not My Life, Shortland Street (twice), Spartacus and Nothing Trivial.

In this ScreenTalk, Kennard talks about:

  • Dealing with the pressures of Xena: Warrior Princess
  • Learning lots on her first visit to the fast-paced set of Shortland Street
  • Enjoying the "man’s world" of Street Legal
  • How Kennard's role on the show helped her grow as an actor
  • How sci-fi thriller This is Not My Life led to a change in direction in her life
  • Digging deep to portray a heroin addict in Underbelly: Land of the Long White Coud
  • Feeling like she had "come home" on the set of TV  series Nothing Trivial
  • How drawing on personal vulnerability makes for better performances
