Leigh Hart is well known for his offbeat comedy, which can be found on the moon, the internet and in bacon adverts. Hart broke onto the small screen via cult sports show SportsCafe, before launching his own series, Moon TV, whose often disastrous interview segment spawned The Late Night Big Breakfast Show. Hart has also dialled back the humour for episodes of Descent from Disaster and DNA Detectives.
In this ScreenTalk interview, Hart talks about:
- How a chance encounter and some snails got him a gig on SportsCafe
- Taking a proactive approach to getting Moon TV on air
- Having a different approach from April Ieremia for reality TV show Shock Treatment
- Never thinking that Leigh Hart's Mysterious Planet would get funding
- Becoming part of the mystery in the final episode
- A personal connection to his story in Descent from Disaster
- Why The Late Night Big Breakfast is perfect for sponsorship
- Keeping guests on the show in the dark
- Realising it wasn’t all about him, while filming DNA Detectives
- The reality behind the Hellers adverts
- Changes in his very distinctive voice

...half an hour later I'm driving to Sky studios with a tupperware container full of garden snails. And the premise was I was a snail trainer heading off to the States to take on the US competition . . . the next week, they wanted to do a follow-up story.
