Guyon Espiner

Presenter, Reporter

Christchurch-raised Guyon Espiner began working in the press gallery the day Jim Bolger left Parliament. After a decade in newspapers, he joined TVNZ in 2003 as political editor, a role he held for six years. Espiner moved to TV3 in 2012, and the following year co-hosted current affairs show 3rd Degree with onetime rival Duncan Garner. In 2014, he became co-host of RNZ's Morning Report before transitioning to investigative journalism with RNZ in 2019. He returned to hosting in 2024 with RNZ interview series 30 with Guyon Espiner. Beyond broadcasting, he has authored The Drinking Game (2023) an exposé of Aotearoa's alcohol industry.

He's watched as tired governments have gone and as new ones have waxed, only to wane in turn and be consigned to history ... he travelled to Antarctica with the late Ed Hillary, he's been to Washington, interviewed Hillary Clinton ... been in shit fights with Winston; he's helped nail political scalps to the wall. Greg Dixon on Guyon Espiner, NZ Herald, 9 February 2012
