Broadcaster Mike Puru began his career in 1995 as a radio DJ on The Edge. In 2002 he moved into television, co-hosting youth show Flipside, which invited viewers to text in their opinions. Puru later appeared on shopping channel YesShop, before returning to mainstream TV in 2015 to host the first two seasons of the New Zealand version of The Bachelor. That same year he announced he was leaving The Edge after 20 years. From 2016 he co-hosted TV3's morning show The Café, and also presented the weather on Newshub. Puru returned to radio in 2023, launching station Southern Cross Country, and joined The Breeze as a host in 2024.
I really want to see the show become a voice for the youth rather than a reflection of youth. Mike Puru on Flipside, The Dominion Post, 4 March 2003
