Rob Bavin

Art Director

Art director Rob Bavin has helped bring to life alien planets, snow-lashed Alaskan towns, and the Roman Empire. Working in the industry for more than 25 years, Bavin has contributed to numerous international productions filmed in New Zealand, including Avatar, Roman Empire and The Shannara Chronicles. His Kiwi screen work includes vampire thriller Perfect Creature, ocean voyage horror The Ferryman, and comedy drama series Burying Brian. In 2009 Bavin shared an American Art Director’s Guild award as part of the design team on Avatar; he was nominated again in 2023 for Avatar: The Way of Water.

I have been fortunate to work in many different areas within the art department — this is often the norm in New Zealand, which has given me a crucially important overview of the full workings of the department. Rob Bavin
