Actor, Intimacy Coordinator

After graduating from drama school Toi Whakaari, Romy Hooper made her screen debut on Shortland Street, and soon became a series regular on Nothing Trivial. She went on to appear in drama series The Gulf and The Panthers, and season two of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth. Hooper took lead roles in shorts We Need to Talk About Loss (2010) and Bottle Money (2024). In 2025 she made her directorial debut with quirky crime caper Notes from a Fish, co-directing alongside Tom Levesque. She also co-stars, as a fisheries officer turned private investigator. Since 2020, Hooper has also worked as an intimacy coordinator, and is an audiobook narrator.

I was blown away by how different the experience felt, being on set as an actor, with an IC [intimacy coordinator] present versus other instances where there had been sexual content and there wasn’t one. It made the work joyous and playful instead of daunting and intimidating. Romy Hooper on what inspired her to train as an intimacy coordinator, Radio New Zealand, 21 April 2024
