Celebrating Ian Athfield

Honoured with a Knight Companion of the NZ Order of Merit, renowned architect Sir Ian Athfield and his Wellington practice won over 100 awards from 1968. 'Ath' was involved in the Christchurch rebuild, and designed Devonport's new library. This Spotlight collection presents screen souvenirs from his career. Foremost is a 1977 documentary by Sam Neill (with a written backgrounder by Russell Campbell); a 1984 Elegant Shed episode sees Ath interviewed in his sprawling hillside house; and his Pearce apartments get a graffiti tribute in 1980. Sir Ian passed away on January 16 2015.
