In search of a hideout, gun-toting Gigi (Kate Elliott) and her gang end up in hot water after crashing into the lives of a middle-class Māori family. To describe the whānau as meat lovers would be euphemistic. Actor/director Danny Mulheron has gleefully given the finger to political correctness before — with Meet the Feebles, hit play The Sex Fiend and TV's Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby. This movie marked Mulheron's big-screen directing debut, and the anarchic feature promised cannibalism, comedy and Temuera Morrison. Fresh Meat had its world premiere at the Hawaii International Film Festival in October 2012.
It's rude to sit at a Māori table and not eat.– Hemi Crane (Temuera Morrison) at the dinner table
Released in New Zealand cinemas on October 25 2012
