Hunting Horns

Television, 1976

Writer James McNeish interviewed journalist, academic and prisoner of war James Bertram about his experiences in Asia for this series. Hunting Horns covers Bertram's early life in New Zealand, travels through Europe and Asia, work for the China Defence League, and why he fought with the Chinese during the invasion of Hong Kong. Bertram scored a coup interviewing Mao Zedong in the late 30s. He was later imprisoned by the Japanese for nearly four years. Playing in a 10.30pm slot on TV1, the series was directed by Barry Barclay.
