The Casketeers

Hit series The Casketeers follows Onehunga couple Francis and Kaiora Tipene, who run two Auckland funeral homes. Fluent speakers of te reo Māori, the couple incorporate Māori practices —  including karakia and karanga —  as they handle bereavements in their community. The Tipene Funerals team's mix of sensitivity and a sense of humour won many international viewers when the show was streamed on Netflix. In season four, Covid-19 had an impact on how funeral services are handled. The sixth and final season debuted on TVNZ 1 in October 2023.
