The Child Jumpers

Short Film (Full Length) – 2011

Listen there's something I've got to explain to you, man. I don't chump to live...I live to chump.
– Ricky (Tim Batt) on his passion for 'chumping'
Ja, jumping is like...it's sexy times. If it's with a girl it's much better, but... for me I'll jump over anything.
– German backpacker Johan (Cam Neate) on the appeal of chumping
Probably without him....none of us would be chumping today.
– Ricky's mate (Tom Furniss) on his best mate's invention
The winning entry beat more than 800 teams and 10,000 participants in this year's competition
– Stuff writer Bridget Jones on The Child Jumpers taking top prize, 4 July 2011
People were really good about it. They thought we were utterly crazy but played along. Whole families agreed to let us jump over their heads.
– Actor Cam Neate on finding willing extras for The Child Jumpers shoot, University of Waikato website, 8 July 2011
A true collaboration between friends that shows in every one of its frames. The absolutely charming, seemingly effortless short The Child Jumpers won the audience and judges over with its honesty, heart and laugh out loud dialogue.
– 48 Hour Film founder Ant Timpson on the 2011 Grand National winner The Child Jumpers, University of Waikato website, 8 July 2011
Our genre was ‘fad’, and every film had to have a character called Bobby Young who was an ex-bully. We had to have a line of dialogue which was "what have you got?", a bent piece of wire, and every film had to end on a freeze frame.
– Actor Cam Neate on the required elements in the 2011 48Hours film contest, University of Waikato website, 8 July 2011
Great film from clearly a very talented bunch of guys. Love the idea, the narrative and the execution. I heard some criticisms surrounding the difference between the very pretty 'rain drop' shots and some of the handicam work, personally I loved this contrast as it make the documentary aspect far more believable.
– Reviewer 'GeekCritique', on the 48Hours website
We had about four hours sleep in the 48 hours.
