The Marching Girls

The Marching Girls were the last hurrah of Auckland band The IB Darlings, formed in 1975. Inspired by the Sex Pistols, guitarist Johnny Volume (Ken Cooke) and drummer Des Truction (Simon Monroe) became notorious Kiwi punksters The Scavengers. After playing on Ready To Roll in 1977, Brit Ronnie Recent (Brendan Perry) joined on vocals. The Scavengers recorded two iconic punk singles before relocating to Australia, rebranding as The Marching Girls. In 1980 they released their minimalist, standout single 'First in Line'. Perry left soon after to form Dead Can Dance in 1981, while Volume and Truction kept releasing music into the late 1980s.
