This 90-minute telemovie (there was also a longer miniseries version) marked a rare time project aimed at adults for writer Margaret Mahy. After the assassination of scientist David Typhon, various parties head for his secret lab in New Zealand, pursuing the truth behind rumoured experiments on humans. Among them are rabid protestors, a European infiltrator (Michael Hurst) and the strangely-gifted Cato (Greg Wise). Blessed with an impressive cast of Kiwis, Brits (Wise, Frida's Alfred Molina), and Australian Sophie Lee (The Castle), Typhon's People won awards for its design and sound design.
