White Trash

Steriogram , Music Video – 2001

from the album Schmack! (2004)

The video that helped Steriogram get discovered by Capitol Records is a nod to all things bogan. From mullets to greasy car mechanics, fluffy dice to line dancing, this homage to everything West Auckland includes a cameo from then Cultural Ambassador for Waitakere Ewen Gilmour, plus white trash rhyming to boot: "I got my Holden and I’m ready for Rolling / Yeah this car ain’t stolen ...". Vocalist Tyson Kennedy shows he was a natural in front of the camera from day one. White Trash was the first of many Steriogram promos directed by Adam Jones (documentary Second Hand Planet).

When we wrote 'White Trash' in 2001 I don't think any of us knew what we were getting ourselves into, it pretty much changed the nature of Steriogram and opened up a lot of new pathways for the band. We made a video for it with Tyson rapping and it got so much exposure that we decided to take him off the drums and bring him up front, then we asked Jared to join as the new drummer and became a five-piece. It was also then we started writing more of our songs with a hip hop influence.
