Since graduating from Australian acting school NIDA in 1995, Brit-born Charles Mesure has worked largely in NZ television. A screen role in the short-lived City Life won him early attention; playing Detective Kees Van Dam in Street Legal won him an NZ TV award. Mesure went on to star as the bewildered hero of This is Not My Life, and appear in two American shows: sci-fi tale V, and the final season of Desperate Housewives.
I guess I’m getting to a certain age where there’s a gruff, authoritative kind of thing that I can do quite well.
– Charles Mesure, in a 2005 Listener interview
