Playwright turned director Toa Fraser grabbed the theatre world's attention with the award-winning play No.2, which he then directed for the screen. No 2 debuted at the 2006 Sundance Festival, where it won the coveted audience award. His second film Dean Spanley won seven awards in the 2009 Qantas Film and Television Awards, including best director and best film costing more than $1 million.

– Toa Fraser, interviewed on Lumiere Reader website
