Synopsis

The band has its origins in Christchurch, but this video takes their trademark sonic guitar to the subways and streets of their adopted home of New York. Shot in 1996 it feels more emblematic of the recession era as a robotic businessman crawls on its belly towards redundancy on Wall St. It's a striking key image as he/its battery runs down in front of the Stock Exchange Building amongst oblivious pedestrians. Liberty: Bailterspace style.

Heh. Me and bro-Marc were on our way to a Film Festival in Sao Paolo when we shot this in NY. We had a bag full of 35mm, 16mm and 8mm cameras and stock and shot the crap out of everything in LA, NY and Brazil to reconstitute into exotic looking music clips once we got back to NZ. Alister Parker was a dude. Good fun. That's moi with the black beanie and orange sunnies at the beginning. We snuck the film through the disused and on-it's-last-legs telecine at Maori TV just as it was closing after the Tuku Morgan undie-gate hoo haa. That's why the images look a bit pink. Beg, borrow, steal etc.
