I'll Say Goodbye (Even Though I'm Blue)

The Dance Exponents

Synopsis

A young, blonde and big-haired (it was the early 80s) Jordan Luck and his fellow band members hang out in Auckland's old Leopard Tavern for this retro classic. Model Debra Mains (star of the DD Smash videos of the time) smoulders as the spurning lover, and a rest-home of elderly extras join in for the famous sing-along chorus. The dial phone looks positively pre-industrial. The song was number 89 in the APRA Top 100 New Zealand songs of all time.

I'll put my hand up and say Jordan is the finest pop songwriter this nation has produced to date. All those years listening to With The Beatles paid off.

Debra still smoulders today, down in Queenstown. This vid brings back great memories of NZ, and its very talented pool of musicians
