Synopsis

Gretchen Albrecht's richly-coloured large abstract paintings made her reputation in New Zealand from the late 1980s. This documentary (made for TV One's Artsville series) traces the development of Albrecht's work from her art school years through to her current interest in sculpture. Interspersed with commentary from family, collectors, writers, and art historians, the artist discusses her life, and the ideas and influences that inform her work. And in the studio, her working methods are revealed as she's filmed making new work.

I am also a student, in my third year. Thank you Gretchen Albrecht, you helped me put into words what it is I am trying to say in my works. I found it very moving and inspiring, so also thank you to all who put this wonderful documentary together, it will stay with me always.

I am a 2nd year art student...I chose Gretchen Albrecht to study. Her work is beautiful HOWEVER until I saw "Reflections" her work had not come alive for me. I can so excited to have chosen such an amazing lady to study. I am inspired and delighted...can't wait to put brush to canvas....WOW.
