This episode of TV2’s 1980 weekly after-school show features performances by resident band Kairo (covering the Doobie Brothers) and the Montgomery Sisters. In the field, Tracy Barr joins naval frigate HMNZS Waikato sailing from Devonport Naval Base, under the Auckland Harbour Bridge and up the Waitemata Harbour to collect ammunition at Point Kauri, and then out to sea for gunnery practice. On board, Tracy chats to the captain, a chef and a laundryman (who irons 150 shirts every day) — the results of the exercise seem to be a military secret.

i have never seen this before or even knew the show existed! i was at boarding school i missed 3 years of tv:(

Ha! That's me sitting next to Tracy. I am the blonde girl to her left. I was six. Next to me is my brother James and then my sister Katherine. Man that was exciting. It was filmed at the old Shortland Street studio. All the kids in the audience are Navy kids. I showed my six year old son Alex the footage. He doesn't believe it is me!

Megan , Sharon & Scott reckon Tracy is TOPS !

That is me you see up there on the screen, maybe not all of the time, but that is a part of me. I speak like that all the time, I giggle like that, I nod my head all the time, I move my feet all the time. My hair style is what I want.
Over the years I’ve had lots and lots of criticism and I’ve come to think, well, you can’t please everyone all the time. If you’re pleasing 15 kids out there then you’re doing your job.
