Magnet

Headless Chickens , Music Video – 1997

from the album Greedy (2020)

'Magnet' appeared on 1997 Headless Chicken release Greedy. The album's best-known track is chart-topping single George, fronted by vocalist Fiona McDonald. McDonald left the group in 1995, and the Chickens disbanded soon after Greedy's release. 'Magnet' sticks to familiar territory: moody guitar lines, scalpel sharp lyrics, and Chris Matthews' distinctively deep lead vocal. Jonathan King's video is awash with urban decay. A depleted band (drummer Bevan Sweeney and guitarist Flex) gather around a car wreck, with Matthews delivering his creepy parable from behind its smashed windshield.

All the intricate ways the brain can rearrange, innocent actions into something more strange...
– Vocalist and lyricist Chris Matthews shows he isn't one for shallow sentiment
