Neighbourhood - Napier (with John Psathas)

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2014

Composer John Psathas returns to his hometown of Napier in this episode of Neighbourhood. Situated in the Hawke's Bay, "the fruit bowl of New Zealand", Napier is famous for its art deco charm. Psathas visits the multicultural community who call Napier home, including Japanese artist Asaki Kajima, who is inspired by her florist family, a South African midwife supporting other migrant mothers through childbirth, and the son of an Irish immigrant reflecting on his family’s memories of the Troubles. Then, two friends from China celebrate with friends and family, sharing the joy of Chinese cuisine and culture.

Napier smack bang in the so-called fruit bowl of New Zealand. Home to a flourishing wine industry and an array of art deco delights. These days, my old hometown attracts an increasingly affluent and diverse mix of people, drawn here by the sun and the lifestyle.
