Scribe 2001

P-Money featuring Scribe , Music Video – 2001

from the album Big Things (2001)

Although this is a P-Money track, one would be forgiven for thinking it was Scribe's, considering it heavily features him, is lyrically about him and is even named after him. The Scribe 2001 music video serves as a time capsule, not only for Scribe and P-Money's careers, but for New Zealand hip hop history. Filmed by P-Money, the video is charmingly low-budget, casual and chaotic — just two friends hanging out and hyping their new song. Little did they know, the Kiwi hip hop explosion of the early 2000s was about to ignite. Or perhaps they did know, and that's why they included the year in the title, to mark the moment.

Scribe was front and centre on P-Money’s first single ‘Scribe 2001’ and also appeared on the killer track that was its follow-up — ‘Synchronize Thoughts’... They weren’t hit singles, but the music videos went on high rotate, pushing the album to number seven on the charts and putting Scribe into pole position for the explosion of local hip hop that was just around the corner.
