So Damn Beautiful

Michael Murphy , Music Video – 2004

from the single No Place to Land (2005)

2004 NZ Idol runner-up Michael Murphy enjoyed a stellar start to his solo career: single 'So Damn Beautiful' debuted at number one. The Taupo born singer narrowly lost New Zealand's popular music crown to Ben Lummis, but the exposure clearly paid off. The video plays with the idea of the singer being objectified by the camera; he sings his stadium rock ballad straight down the lens before taking control, grabbing the camera and taking pictures of his "beautiful" fans. In late 2004 popular NZ Idol fansite Idolblog revealed that the song had been released previously by American band Vallejo, and nominated for a Grammy.

I am not right out there, so it is very easy for people to go, ‘Where has he gone?', but I am still here. This has just been my job since I was 17.
